Set at the foot of the Blue Stack
Mountains with waterfalls at both North and South, Lough Eske
is 3 miles long and 1 mile at its widest point. The lake fishes
Salmon, brown and white or Sea Trout. Lough Eske has 12 Islands,
but the one that is talked about most is the Isle of the O’Donnell
with the remains of a ‘Bawn’ or Castle. It is said
that the O’Donnell clan used this Island to keep prisoners
secure.
We are located 2 km from the new Solis Lough Eske 5 Star Hotel. This hotel has recenetly been built on the grounds of the Lough Eske Castle. |
The town dates
back to Viking times when a fortress was established at the mouth
of the river Eske. It is thought that this gave the town and ultimately
the county its name, Dun na nGall, meaning "Fort of the Foreigners".
Donegal Town itself would be regarded as a town of great historical
interest, for it was the family seat of the O'Donnells, chieftains
of Tirconaill. In 1474,Nowadays Donegal Town, with it 26 traditional
bars, pubs and restaurants offers Live Music, Summer Festivals
and Craic’. |
